Floof & Evil LLC

My sister and I visited Iceland in October in honor of my Mom, who passed from COVID in Jan 2021. She loved to travel, and it was one of her bucket list travel places. We wanted to see the aurora, which we only got brief glimpses of, but it was another Icelandic attraction that we fell in love with: the lagoons.

Our travel package included a one day pass to the Sky Lagoon, which was simply amazing. Then a few days later, on a dull, rainy day, we decided to visit the Blue Lagoon as well. This time we opted for the posh upgrade, and it was so worth it. We loved both of our visits.

We live in a cold, hostile climate just like Iceland. We kept wondering to each other, why we don’t we have any similar places in Minnesota. Even without thermal springs, an outdoor heated bath would surely be a big hit?!

And that’s where Floof &Evil was born.

Floof and evil…?

I’m sure you’re wondering where the name came from. When registering the business, I was desperately trying to think of a generic business name, with the intent that whatever location we picked would have its own name separate from the business. I considered Mogard Sisters or Mogard LLC, but that seemed too boring in comparison to the excitement we had around our business.

Around that time, I saw a “floof and evil” meme and for some reason the name stuck out to me. Maybe because it reminded me of Sieh, our Maine Coon cat, who looks just like a lynx (a very Minnesotan type of cat). He’s now our mascot.

Here’s the first of the floof & evil memes I saw, but there are many, many more out there.

So… what exactly are you creating, you ask. Let me tell ya.

The Details

Bree and I are building out a plan where we eventually will have a small resort on ~40+ acres of land in the Duluth/Superior area. On this lot, we’ll offer a variety of ”tiny” houses for short-term rental, focusing on architecturally unique and eco-friendly options that our clients might not consider building for themselves, but would like to try out.

We’ll start with renovating our vintage Airstream, then building a yurt, and go on from there. As we start generating income, we’ll work on the designs for our lagoon. Eventually, we’ll have enough clientele and income to build it, and add on special services like massage and spa treatments.

We also have plans for other activities at our resort, like art and fitness classes. We want our resort to be a place of rest and rejuvenation, but also encouraging creativity and exploration.

The Roadmap

We are still in the early stages of our business, but we are working hard on it already!

  • Looking for the perfect lot to build our business
  • Setting up bank accounts & mortgage
  • Writing a detailed business plan
  • Visiting existing businesses to validate our ideas and explore our options
  • Blogging! (I’ve learned so much already and I want to share what I’ve learned)

Keep following this blog to stay updated on our progress and to hear what we’ve been working on!
